Jigsaw | Teaching identity as a learning pursuit

There are four main sections to Muhammad’s 2020. Cultivating Genius. Chapter 3 Toward the Pursuit of Identity: 1. Cultivating Identity, 2. What is Identity, 3. Ways to understand and teach identity, and 4. Teaching identity as a learning pursuit. For this Jigsaw activity:

  • Students are divided into three groups each with an assigned section; (I am responsible for section 4, Teaching identity as a learning pursuit.).
  • 15 min. Please review your assigned section from Muhammad, Gholdy. 2020. Cultivating Genius. Chapter 3 Toward the Pursuit of Identity. pp. 64-8. and identify two quotes significant to the theme of the section. Prepare to discuss the quotes, how they relate to each other and to the section;
  • 15 min. Taking turns, discuss your quotes within your small group emphasizing how they relate to each other and to the section;
  • 10 min. Within your group, prepare a brief overview of the section to share with the class by identifying two quotes significant to the theme of the section. Prepare to discuss the quotes, how they relate to each other and serve to make the section meaningful.
  • 10 min. With the whole class, share the overview of the section by
    • Reading the two quotes significant to the theme of the section.
    • Engaging the class in discussion of how the quotes relate to each other and serve to make the section meaningful.
